Description

The Edwards G1M Genesis Signal Master Synchronization Module is a notification appliance synchronization accessory designed to provide precision strobe synchronization and independent horn control for compatible Edwards Genesis notification appliances. The module installs directly onto the back of the first compatible Genesis appliance on a Notification Appliance Circuit (NAC), eliminating the need for a separate electrical box.

The G1M synchronizes compatible strobes that are electrically connected downstream from the module.

Strobe Synchronization

The primary function of the G1M is to provide precision synchronization of compatible visual notification appliances.

Edwards specifies:

Flash Rate: 1 flash per second
Synchronization Accuracy: Within 10 milliseconds
Synchronization Duration: Indefinitely

This synchronized operation is designed to meet the requirements of UL 1971 for visual notification appliances.

The G1M only synchronizes compatible appliances that are electrically connected to and downstream from the Signal Master.

Independent Horn Control

Edwards documents two methods of independent horn control:

• Traditional NAC signal silence
• Normally closed contact control

One NAC Operation

The G1M can be configured for synchronization using a single Notification Appliance Circuit.

In this arrangement, jumpers are installed between the horn and strobe input terminals as specified by Edwards. The same NAC supplies the required signaling power to the module and connected notification appliances.

Where independent horn silence is required, an appropriate two-NAC or control-contact arrangement should be used.

Two NAC Horn Silence Operation

This arrangement allows the system to control the audible and visual portions of compatible Genesis horn-strobes separately.

Snap-On Piggyback Mounting

The G1M is the snap-on version of the Genesis Signal Master.

Installation is accomplished by sliding the G1M’s spade connectors into the terminals on the rear of the Genesis appliance.

G1M vs. G1M-RM

Edwards offers two primary mounting configurations in the Genesis Signal Master family.

G1M:
Snap-on piggyback model that mounts directly to the back of a compatible Genesis appliance.

G1M-RM:
Remote-mount version designed for installation in a North American one-gang electrical box or other supported mounting arrangement.

Genesis Compatibility

The G1M is designed for compatible Edwards Genesis notification appliances.

Edwards documentation identifies the Signal Master family for synchronization applications involving Genesis products.

A G1M should not be assumed compatible with every Edwards notification appliance. The applicable control-panel compatibility documentation should be checked for the exact appliance models and quantities permitted on the circuit.
