The Cooper Wheelock AS-24MCW-FW is a ceiling or wall sounding appliance that combines an audible horn with a xenon strobe, designed for life safety systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. It’s part of Wheelock’s AS Series of 2-wire horn-strobes, offering a balance of performance, field flexibility, and ease of installation.
Although often referenced, note that the typical documentation is for the AS-24MCW-FR (red “FIRE”) version; the “FW” suffix indicates the same unit in a white housing for aesthetic flexibility.
Multi-Candela (MCW) Strobe Options
The strobe provides field-selectable candela levels of 15 / 30 / 75 / 110 cd for wall mounting, allowing designers to tailor visibility to corridor size or lighting conditions.
Selectable Continuous / Temporal Horn
The horn portion supports either a continuous tone or temporal (Code 3) tone, selectable in the field.
Three Volume Settings (dBA Levels)
The horn offers three output levels (high, medium, low) in both tone modes, to match ambient noise conditions.
2-Wire Design (Simple Wiring)
Uses a single two-wire circuit for both the horn and strobe, simplifying wiring runs while maintaining full functionality.
Universal Mounting Plate & Easy Installation
The unit uses a universal mounting plate that fits standard 4″ square, double gang, or also European 100 mm backboxes. As well as convenience in wiring and mounting is emphasized.
Synchronization Support
When used with Wheelock’s DSM / SM modules or compatible fire panels, strobes (and in certain cases horns) can be synchronized across multiple devices to ensure coordinated flashing and avoid adverse interactions (important to satisfy ADA / NFPA requirements).
Strobe Flash Rate
The strobe flashes at 1 flash per second over its regulated voltage range.
