Description
F
The Fire-Lite BG-12L is a conventional dual-action manual pull station designed for compatible commercial fire alarm systems. Specifically, users activate the station by pushing the handle inward and then pulling it downward, helping reduce accidental operation while providing a clear manual alarm signal.
Built for dependable commercial use, the BG-12L features a durable red polycarbonate housing, a key-lock reset mechanism, highly visible operating instructions, and Braille markings. In addition, the activated handle remains latched in the down position, providing a clear visual indication that someone has operated the station.
The BG-12L is a conventional initiating device and does not include an addressable interface. Honeywell currently identifies the BG-12 Series as discontinued.
Product Functions
The Fire-Lite BG-12L supports commercial fire alarm systems by providing:
- Manual fire alarm initiation
- Dual-action PUSH IN/PULL DOWN operation
- Normally open alarm switch contacts
- Key-lock reset
- Visible activated indication
- Braille operating instructions
- Support for conventional initiating device circuits
- Surface-mount and semi-flush installation options
Electrical & System Information
The BG-12L connects to a compatible conventional fire alarm initiating device circuit. When a user pushes in and pulls down the operating handle, the station closes its normally open alarm switch and sends a manual alarm input to the connected control panel.
The switch contacts use gold-plated components rated at 0.25 A at 30 VAC or VDC. Furthermore, a four-position terminal strip with captive combination-head screws supports field wiring up to 12 AWG. Always verify circuit and control-panel compatibility before installation.
Features
Dual-Action Operation
The BG-12L requires two deliberate motions for activation. First, the user pushes the handle inward. Then, the user pulls it downward. As a result, the design helps reduce accidental activation from bumps or impacts.
Key-Lock Reset
The station uses a key-operated lock for reset and inspection. Therefore, authorized personnel can open and restore the station after activation while limiting unauthorized access.
Clear Activated Indication
After operation, the handle remains latched in the down position. In addition, the word ACTIVATED appears in bright yellow, making the station’s condition easy to identify.
Accessible Operating Design
The handle includes Braille markings, directional arrows, and clear PUSH IN/PULL DOWN instructions. Furthermore, the station meets the ADA five-pound maximum pull-force requirement.
Normally Open Contacts
The BG-12L includes an SPST normally open alarm switch. Once activated, the switch closes and provides a manual initiating signal to the fire alarm control panel.
Mounting & Design
The Fire-Lite BG-12L features a contoured red polycarbonate enclosure with white lettering and a lightly textured finish. Its durable cover, backplate, and operating handle support routine commercial use.
The station supports surface mounting with a compatible SB-10 or SB-I/O backbox. Alternatively, installers can semi-flush mount it to a standard single-gang, double-gang, or 4-inch square electrical box. An optional BG12TR trim ring can improve the finished appearance of semi-flush installations.
Protection & Applications
The BG-12L is designed for commercial fire alarm systems that require a clearly visible manual alarm initiation point.
Typical protection and system uses include:
- Manual fire alarm initiation
- Conventional initiating device circuits
- Building life-safety systems
- Emergency alarm activation
- Occupant-accessible pull station locations
- Commercial fire alarm installations
Always install the pull station according to local building codes, fire codes, ADA requirements, project specifications, and the manufacturer’s instructions.
Compatibility
The Fire-Lite BG-12L is designed for compatible conventional fire alarm control panels and normally open initiating device circuits. It can also work with other manufacturers’ conventional controls when the electrical requirements match.
Compatible mounting accessories may include:
- SB-10 Metal Surface Backbox
- SB-I/O Plastic Surface Backbox
- BG12TR Semi-Flush Trim Ring
- 17003 Replacement Key Set
Before purchasing or installing this pull station, verify compatibility with the control panel, initiating circuit, electrical box, and project approval requirements.
