Siemens AD-3ILP uses photoelectric smoke detectors to detect the presence of combustion products in a duct system. When the Siemens AD-3ILP is operating, a sample of air is drawn from the duct and passed through the sampling chamber at low velocity by means of the inlet sampling tube. Also, the air sample passes through the smoke detector mounted in the duct housing. It is exhaust back into the duct through the outlet sampling tube. Furthermore, A trouble condition from an AD-3I/3ILP is indicate by visual and audible devices on the control panel.

The Siemens air duct detector housings are design to be use with Fire Safety Series IL, ID-60 and Series 3 ionization or photoelectric detectors.

Also, The detector unit employs a cross-sectional sampling principle of operation. In consequence, the sampling tubes are available in four lengths. An ongoing cross-sectional sample of the air to move through the duct. The effects of laminar flow, stratification, or skin effect phenomena occurring in the duct that could prevent combustion products or smoke (especially in large ducts) from reaching a spot type detector. In addition, the unique design of the sampling chamber ensures uniform sensitivity in air velocities. The detector shall also be available for applications in altitudes of 3000 to 8000 feet above sea level if desired.
